Wind Driven Fires in Montecito
The first fires began on Thursday evening in the hills near Montecito, California a neighbor community to Santa Barbara. More than 2,000 acres have been burned and the reports indicate that approximately 100 homes have been destroyed.
Forced evacuations have been ordered and more than 1,000 firefighters are attempting to bring the wind-driven blaze under control. Montecito is a small extension community to Santa Barabar and has about 10,000 homeowners, many of them well known Hollywood celebraties.
It is estimated that about 2,500 Residents have fled their homes. Power outages have impacted 20,000 people and fortunately there are only minor injuries and no reported deaths as of Friday, November 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. Pacific time.
Winds could reach upwards of 70 miles per hours, today, according to authorities.
